No. 43 Cinema

About:
MIDWAY centers on the Battle of Midway, a clash between the American fleet and the Imperial Japanese Navy which marked a pivotal turning point in the Pacific Theater during WWII. The film, based on the real-life events of this heroic feat, tells the story of the leaders and soldiers who used their instincts, fortitude and bravery to overcome the odds.

Review:
My grandad was a spitfire pilot in WW2 so this amazing to see and had me on the edge of my seat from the start, seeing some of the best cockpit fighting footage I’ve ever seen. These guys really had balls of steel as they flow into the enemies firing line and it was captured perfectly in this movie.
Great cast and interesting true storyline with some amazing action scenes this is definitely worth a trip to the cinema.

Verdict:
Awesome war movie

Fun facts:
It was Edwin Layton’s idea to invite John Ford to shoot footage of the Midway battle, as he thought it would be good for morale. Layton went to Nimitz and the Admiral agreed to give Ford and his cameraman the opportunity. The resulting footage would later be edited as the promotional documentary The Battle of Midway (1942). Ford, pleased with the result, gave Layton a bit part in Big Jim McLain (1952).
