This is my review on the movie Joker 2019

No. 38 Cinema

About:
A mentally-troubled comedian Arthur Fleck is disregarded and mistreated by society. He then embarks on a downward spiral of revolution and bloody crime. This path brings him face-to-face with his alter-ego: “The Joker”.

Review:
If your expecting to see a superhero movie with a string of special effects and loads of action you will be very disappointed BUT if you are expecting a very dark ‘Taxi Driver’ style story based on one of the greatest villains of all time Joker will not disappoint.
Joaquin Phoenix pulls of an amazing performance as Arthur Fleck and deserves an Oscar for best actor.
The story is slow and very dark but works so well, you feel sorry for Arthur as he struggles with mental health and everyone knocking him down when all he wants to do is make people smile.
This is a stunning origin story that left me wanting to see more, I kind of felt like it needed another half hour of him as the actual Joker.

Spoiler:
Just a thought, what if the whole thing was in Arthur Flecks head?
Many times in the movie things happen that didn’t actually happen and then at the end he is in the nut house, which got me thinking was he in the nut house the whole time? And everything we’d just watched was what he was thinking while talking to the nurse?
In a way that makes the story a little bit more special and twisted but it’s just a thought.

Joker

Verdict:
A timeless classic movie

Review:
4.5/5

No

Fun facts:
The joke “When I was a little boy and told people I was going to be comedian, everyone laughed at me. Well no one’s laughing now” is inspired by the late British comedian Bob Monkhouse’s “People used to laugh at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian. Well they’re not laughing now.”
